Estrée NW
Location, Access, Description
The Estrée NW property is located in Eeyou-Istchee James Bay Territory (Qc), about 95 km southwest of Matagami and 150 km north of Rouyn-Noranda. The property consists of 1 mining claim totaling 55.81 Ha. Globex is 100% owner of the property which is not subject to any third-party interests. The property is easily accessible in vehicle by a network of gravel roads and trails.
Skilled labour, equipment providers and contractors who are able to facilitate exploration activities are abundant in the area, being available in Amos, La Sarre and Rouyn-Noranda. High-voltage power line is running at the Casa Berardi mine (Hecla Mining Company) located 25 km west of the property.
Geology and Mineralization
The Estrée NW property lies in the western part of the Harricana-Turgeon segment of the Archean Abitibi Subprovince. Following Lacroix (1994 – MB94-54), rocks of the area are organized into E-W oriented bands, including from north to south the Taibi sediments (northern band), Orvilliers-Desmazures basalts, Taibi sediments (southern band), komatiitic or mafic basalts of the Cartwright Hills, the Casa-Berardi volcano-sedimentary domain, and the Joutel-Raymond basaltic-rhyolitic domain. The presence of a few linear electromagnetic conductors in these domains also suggests interbedded thin tuffs or fine detrital sediments (argillites) rich in graphite.
Rocks of the Estrée NW property are composed of wacke and mudrock of the Taïbi Group alternating with narrow and discontinuous iron formations (MB94-54). Rocks are E-W trending and steeply dipping, metamorphism is at the greenschists to amphibolite grade. Proterozoic diabase dykes cut all archean rocks in a NE orientation (Biscotasing swarm) and N-S direction (Matachewan swarm).
The property is squeezed between the Mistaouac Pkuton to the south, the Orvilliers Pluton to the north and the Récher Pluton to the west, each of which could have brought hot mineralized hydrothermal fluids.
The Estrée NW property is located in the Casa-Berardi sheared corridor, about 20 km ENE of the Casa Berardi mine operated by Hecla Mining Company. The Newmont-Estrées East property is located between the Joutel mining camp (40 km east) and the Casa Berardi mine (25 km west) operated by Hecla Mining Company. Numerous gold and base metal showings and deposits are known in this area : copper-zinc mineralization is related to volcanigenic massive sulphides (VMS) while gold mineralization is structurally controlled by an east-west trending fault system associated with the Harricana-Turgeon deformation zone, which appears to be the dominant regional metallotect.
The Casa Berardi mine is a underground / open-pit gold mine composed of three (3) main deposits located along the E-W Casa Berardi regional shear corridor which extends on 50 km from Ontario to the Estrées township (Hecla website, august 2025). In date of December 31, 2024, the Casa Berardi mine has Proven & Probable Reserves of 15.4 Mt @ 0.08 oz/t Au (Open-pit) and 478,000t @ 0.15 oz/t Au (Underground).
The Estrades former gold mine (Historical production of 50,000t @ 10.25% Zn, 1% Cu and 4.38 g/t Au; Sigéom public data) is located 6 km ESE of the Estrée NW property. The massive and brecciated sulfide mineralization associated with gold and silver consists of pyrite, sphalerite, and chalcopyrite with some galena and pyrrhotite and very small amounts of arsenopyrite and silver- and copper-bearing minerals. The host rock is a quartz and sericite schist derived from felsic volcanic rocks of the Cartwright Hills Group (GM53422).
No metallic showing or deposit has been uncovered yet on the Estrée NW property, but several gold showings are present from 5 km to 25 km to the east and west. The closest to the property are the Argentex showing (up to 2.92 g/t Au over 3 m in DDH, GM65782) and the Boulder-Orvilliers showing (up to 6.38 g/t Au over 1.0 m in DDH, GM43820). Mineralization is composed of traces to 3% of pyrite ±arsenopyrite ±sphalerite associated with quartz-ankerite-tourmaline veinlets in silicified and sericitized sheared sediments (GM64760).
History
Very few historical work is reported on the Estrée NW property, however limited geophysical surveys and follow-up diamond drilling has been conducted in the general area. The most significant drilling results relevant to the property have come from the programs of Sholia Resources in 1986 (GM43943) and GLR Resources in 2009-2010 (GM65782).
In 2009-2010, GLR Resources carried out magnetic and induced polarization (IP) surveys and 2,081 m of DDH (3 holes) east of the property. In 2019, Galway Metals Inc. carried-out high-resolution gravity and magnetometry airborne survey (GM71328) directly south of the property.
In 2024, Globex wrote a compilation of historical work on the Estrée NW property (GM73828).
Resources and Potential
The Estrée NW property presents a similar environment with those of several gold showings known to the east. Very limited historical exploration has been carried out directly on the property, probably due to swampy ground and limited outcrops.
A series of NNW-oriented secondary faults are represented on the regional geology map. These late structures could have remobilized and concentrated primary mineralization so a detailed attention should therefore be paid to it during future exploration programs. Historical geoscientific data should be compiled in a GIS project ; further geophysical surveying (Mag, IP, resistivity) could then be helpful in order to define some stripping and DDH targets.
No resource has been estimated on the Estrée NW property yet.
