Freegold

Location, Access, Description

The Freegold property consists of 17 mining claims totalling 555 hectares in the Launay township (NTS 32D10), 30 km west of the town of Amos (Abitibi, Quebec). The claims are wholly owned by Globex and are not subject to any underlying royalties or third party interests.

This area is characterized by low relief and swampy conditions due to the proximity of Loïs and Genest lakes. It is covered by boreal forest vegetation. The property is accessible by Provincial Road 111 which links Amos to Taschereau (Qc) and the Range 3 & 4 road toward south. A historical exploration trail then leads to the Rivière Villemontel gold showing.

Geology and Mineralization

The Freegold property is located in the Abitibi Archean Greenstone Belt, within the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield. Rocks of this area are composed of felsic to ultramafic volcanics of the Figuery and Hunter Mine Groups, and sediments of the Loïs Formation. The synvolcanic polyphased Taschereau Batholith lies a few kilometers north of the property and is composed of porphyritic granite, granodiorite, tonalite, diorite and gabbro. It’s associated with several gold occurrences and some molybdenum mineralization.

All these rocks were verticalized and metamorphosed to the greenschists facies after successive tectonic events during Archean and Paleoproterozoic. The NW-SE Macamic fault is the main tectonic feature of that area. Numerous gold showings are known all along the Macamic Fault, which makes of that structure a reliable regional metallotect for gold exploration. Gold occurrences are of orogenic type and use to be found within (milky) quartz veins parallel to the regional foliation. Limited pyrite, local tourmaline and minor chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite and arsenopyrite often observed within auriferous veins. The Rivière Villemontel and Rivière Villemontel-Sud showings located on the Freegold property are associated with ESE shear zones within mafic volcanics. Assays up to 42.8 g/t Au over 1.50m (DDH FG08-03) and 34.30 g/t Au over 0.97m (DDH #3) are reported in bibliography.

The Dumont-Nickel deposit lies 10 km northeast of the Freegold property. Nickel mineralization is found within NW-SE ultramafic sills intruding the Amos Group mafic volcanics.

History

In 1936 Freegold Mines Ltd. executed some stripping and diamond drilling on the Rivière Villemontel showing (GM02417), then sank a 125 feet deep shaft which exposed a 3 to 5 feet wide and 400 feet long quartz vein oriented N105°/-80° with pyrite, gold and arsenopyrite mineralization, cross-cutting chlorite-sericite-carbonate schists (sheared andesites).

In 1937 Freegold Mines deepened the shaft to 145 feet and developed drifts to the north and west. Channel sampling inside drifts returned up to 0.44 oz/t Au / 4.4 ft (GM02437).

In the late 40’s, Quebec Gold Rocks Exploration undertook 3,450 feet of diamond drilling (DDH) on the Rivière Villemontel-Sud showing which intersected altered andesites hosting mineralized quartz veins (GM00470). Assay results were not communicated.

Numerous geophysical surveys have been undertaken in the region by different companies during the 70’s and 80’s including Mag, EM, and IP. Several conductor and polarization axis were revealed by geophysics then tested in DDH by New Beginning Resources Inc. (1980-1981) and Fairfield Explorations Inc. (1988), returning weak gold anomalies.

In 2008, Bull’s Eye Exploration undertook a 2,700 feet DDH campaign west of the Freegold shaft (GM65230, GM65396). Hole FG-08-03 returned up to 42.8 g/t Au / 0.50 m within a quartz vein exposing 5% pyrite and visible gold at a depth of 40 m.

In 2015, Lakeside Minerals realized some MMI geochemical sampling and rock sampling between Range 2 of Launay township and Range 6 of Privat Township (GM 68586).

In 2022, Globex flew a Very High Resolution Magnetic Survey (NOVATEM) on the whole Freegold property.

Resources and Potential

No resource has ever been estimated on the Freegold property. Several IP anomalies associated with high resistivity values aligned with the Rivière Villemontel and Rivière Villemontel-Sud showings are still untested in the western part of the Freegold property (GM71712).

Geological mapping and stripping should be considered as a continuity of exploration of this area. It’s also recommended to finely interpret the 2022 NOVATEM data in order to identify exploration targets and favourable structures.
