Guyenne
Location, Access, Description
The Guyenne property is located in the Guyenne village (Abitibi, Qc), around 38 km northwest of Amos (Abitibi, Qc). The property consists of 28 claims totalling 1,168 Ha in Guyenne township (NTS 32D15 & 32D16). The claims are wholly owned by Globex and are not subject to any underlying royalties or third party interests. One can easily access to the property by road by taking the Lac Chicobi road and the Range 6 & 7 gravel road.
This area is characterized by low relief with elevations comprised between 300 and 330 meters above sea level. Most of the property is covered with boreal type vegetation but numerous lots belong to private owners whose permission is required before applying for exploration permits.
Geology and Mineralization
The Guyenne property is located in the Abitibi Archean Greenstone Belt, within the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield. Rocks of this area are composed of a bimodal series of felsic to mafic volcanics of Lac Arthur and Bearn Groups. An extensive EW trending sedimentary belt (Chicobi Belt) crosses the northern part of the region. The Archean Berry and Guyenne Batholiths are respectively located east and west of the Guyenne property.
All these rocks are oriented NW-SE and were verticalized and metamorphosed to the greenschists facies after successive tectonic events during Archean and Paleoproterozoic. Numerous mineralized occurrences are listed in the area of the property, including gold (Au), silver (Ag), zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu). Most of these showings are located along a thrust fault that crosses the entire Guyenne property from northwest to southeast corners and extends on either sides.
On the Guyenne property, ESE to SE auriferous shear zones cut by late NNW breccias were recognized in the volcanics by historical stripping. Assays up to 5.27 g/t Au / 3.00m (DDH GP-12-04, Golden Rock showing – GM67782) and 4.91 g/t Au / 4.65m (channel sampling, CGL1 showing – GM53452) were obtained on the Guyenne property. Gold mineralization is of orogenic type and is located in quartz ±tourmaline veins mineralized with 1 to 15% pyrite within ankeritized schists derived from andesites. Some mineralized N320° QFP dikes were also described both in surface and in historical DDH logs (GM45190).
Volcanogenic sulfides are also recognized in felsic volcanics of Lac Arthur Group. Assays up to 1.96% Zn / 7.5 m were encountered on DDH CH88-09 (Projet Chicobi showing) on the Guyenne property. Volcanogenic sulfides are locally associated with strong gold anomalies (DDH CH94-05 : 1.34 g/t Au and 1.88% Zn / 4.0m).
History
Before the 80’s, some geophysical surveys were undertaken on the Guyenne property, followed by a few DDH (GM15727, GM35548). Exploration has been more intensive during the 80’s with several geophysical surveys including Magnetism, I.P, E.M and VLF.
During the late 80’s, Lake Minerals Ltd. undertook a large exploration program in the area of the property including compilation, geological mapping, stripping, geophysics, lithogeochemistry, overburden drilling and DDH (GM44008, GM45190, GM46767, GM48229). That work led to the discovery of the Golden Rock showing and to the identification of a synvolcanic faults system associated with a small auriferous VMS lense (Projet Chicobi showing). Best assay results included 15.6 g/t Ag, 0.87% Zn, 0.3 g/t Au over 7.5 m (CH87-02) and 1.96% Zn over 7.5 m (CH 88-09).
During the early 90’s, Lake North America Ltd. conducted a thorough compilation then executed new geophysical surveys (GM49342, GM52900, GM53813) followed by DDH on the Projet Chicobi showing area (GM51201, GM53452). The company also discovered the CGL1 and CGL2 surface gold showings associated with mineralized shear zones within ankeritized volcanics (GM53452).
In August 2012, Viking Gold Exploration Inc. completed a 3 months exploration program including geological mapping, magnetic and I.P. surveys, and 1,515 m of DDH (GM67782). Best intersections include 5.27 g/t Au over 3m (GP-12-04) and 9.8 g/t Au over 1.5m (GP-12-08). No obvious correspondence could be clearly established between the Au mineralized zones and the response of the Mag, VLF and I.P surveys.
In 2020, Globex realised a surface compilation of historical data which highlighted several untested geophysical anomalies (GM72271).
Resources and Potential
No resource has ever been calculated on the Guyenne property despite the existence of both favourable SMV and auriferous environments. Especially :
- No DDH has ever been targeted beneath the CGL1 and CGL2 showings despite of highly anomalous assays obtained on surface ;
- The Projet Chicobi synvolcanic fault system should be reinvestigated in search of a wider and more economic VMS lense at depth ;
- Numerous untested MEGATEM and I.P anomalies are still untested in the NW part of the property.
