Joutel Eagle (Northwest)
Location, Access, Description
The Joutel Eagle NW property is located in Eeyou-Istchee James Bay Territory (Qc), about 65 km southwest of Matagami and 8 km northwest of the former mining village of Joutel. The property consists of 46 mining claims totaling 2,572.3 Ha. Globex is 100% owner of the property which was optioned to Edison Lithium Corp in March, 2026, over a 3-year period. After Edison has completed all obligations Globex will retain a 3% Gross Metal Royalty (GMR) on the Joutel Eagle NW claims.
The property is easily accessible by Provincial Road 109 connecting Amos to Matagami as well as by an all-weather gravel road. Skilled labour, equipment providers and contractors who are able to facilitate exploration activities are abundant in the area, being available in Matagami, Amos, Val-d’Or, or Rouyn-Noranda. Adjacent to highway 109, is a set of high-voltage power lines running between Amos and Matagami.
Geology and Mineralization
The Joutel mining camp is located in the western part of the Northern Volcanic Zone (Chown et al., 1992) of the Abitibi Subprovince of the Archean Canadian shield. Regional geology of the Joutel area is composed of a N-S homoclinal series of bimodal volcanic and volcanoclastic rocks with polarity toward east (Legault and al., MB2000-10). All these rocks are SE-oriented and were verticalized and metamorphosed to the greenschists / amphibolite facies after three major tectonic events during Archean and Paleoproterozoic.
The Joutel Eagle NW property is centered on a NW-SE-oriented sequence of intermediate to felsic volcaniclastic rocks and minor basaltic flows of the Eagle Member, on the north flank of the McClure-Plamondon anticline. The sediments of the Harricana Group are composed of reworked volcaniclastic rocks undergoing local metasomatism (Legault et al., 2002). Basalts of the Collines de Cartwright Group are present north of the Harricana fault ; intermediate flows and lapilli tuffs of the Valrennes Formation are present south of the Kakinogama Fault..
Rocks of the property are cut by gabbros of the Valrennes Complex and by the NE-trending Paleoproterozoic Biscotasing Dykes.
Past producing mines in the area include Joutel Formation volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) type mineral deposits such as the Globex-owned Poirier Mine (4.39 Mt @ 1.97% Cu, 1.84% Zn, 4.66 g/t Ag*), and the Globex-owned Joutel Mine (1.17 Mt @ 2.16% Cu*) (*production tonnes & grades referenced from L.M. Dubé, 1990, Quebec Ministère des ressources naturelles report ET-90-12, Géologie de la région de Joutel) as well as gold deposits including the Globex-owned Eagle Mine, flanked by Telbel to the east and the West Eagle Pit immediately to the west. All three deposits collectively produced approximately 1.1 Moz of gold from approx. 6.2 Mt, grading 5.8 g/t Au (ref.; Agnico web site History page and Canadian Mining Handbook data from 1974 to 1993).
The Kakinogama and Harricana shear zones crosse the entire property in a NW-SE direction and both associated with numerous gold and base metals showings and deposits at a regional scale (Figure 2). The McClure-Plamondon anticline strikes south of the property and it is associated too with base metal mineralization including the former Joutel Copper Mine. The property is surrounded by the synvolcanic Mistaouac Pluton to the west, the Valrennes mafic Complex to the south and by the syntectonic Marest Pluton to the east, each of which could have been a source of mineralized hydrothermal fluids.
The Joutel Eagle NW property hosts the 92-B-12 silver showing, the 92-D-21 copper showing and the SouthGold showing. As for Burden (2022 – GM72959), “gold mineralization on the property is largely quartz-carbonate vein associated, and sulfide associated. Sulfides occur as disseminations, aggregates, nodules, clasts, and as semi-massive to massive horizons within the volcanic pile. There appears to be two mineralization events, one early syn-volcanic event resulting in the auriferous exhalative sulfide horizons, and a re-mobilization event concentrating gold in higher grades within and adjacent to quartz and quartz-calcite veins.” Most of the showings known in the area appear to be associated with strong input anomalies.
History
Regional exploration in the area including conventional airborne EM surveys followed by diamond drilling dates back to the late 1950’s. Agnico Eagle Mines brought the Telbel Mine into production in 1974. The development of the Eagle Mine followed soon thereafter. In 1990, Agnico resumed exploration drilling on their property guided largely by results from new IP surveys. This subsequent phase of drilling lead to the discovery of the Eagle West Pit Zone, located 150 m west of Globex’s property. Exploitation of the Telbel/Eagle/Eagle West Pit deposits by Agnico continued until 1993 at which time it is reported a total of approximately 1.1 million oz of gold had been extracted from the operations (ref. Agnico website History page).
The Joutel-Eagle property had several drilling and geophysical programs starting in 1958 to 1999 when the majority of historical work has been completed (see GM 72959 for more details about past exploration). More than 200 DDH were thus implanted on the property between 1961 and 2021. This work has identified several gold and copper occurrences on the property, including the South Gold Zone.
Globex has carried out several diamond drilling (DDH) programs in the Joutel Mining Camp since 2008, as well as a historic work compilation in 2020 (GM71933) and a high-resolution airborne magnetics survey in 2021 (GM72395). Orford Mining Corp. (now Alamos Gold) optioned the Joutel Eagle NW property from Globex between 2022 and 2024 and undertook exploration work principally focused on Quartz Carbonate and Sulphides associated gold mineralization at the South Gold Zone. New magnetic and TDEM survey (GM73418) were conducted, along with additional 17 DDH (3,242 m) which defined near surface mineralization at the South Gold Zone (Figure 5) with assays up to 5.8g/t Au over 4.1 m (DDH 23-JE-008) and 4.1g/t Au over 14.6 m (DDH 23-JE-004).
In March 2026, Globex has entered an Option agreement with Edison Lithium Corp. for a $750,000 in cash payments, $750,000 in Edison shares and $2,000,000 in exploration expenditures. After Edison has completed all obligations over a 3-year period, Globex will retain a 3% Gross Metal Royalty (GMR) on the Joutel NW claims (Globex PR dated March 2, 2026).
Resources and Potential
The property is situated along the South Break of the Casa Berardi Structural zone adjacent to several past producing mines including the Globex-owned Poirier mine and Joutel Copper mine, and the Eagle – Telbel – Eagle West deposits.
Recent work by Orford Mining (now Alamos Gold) has demonstrated that there is still an economic potential to be defined on the Joutel Eagle NW property. Orford drilling on the South Gold Zone proved the association of sulfide mineralization to gold content, and that the semi-massive to massive sulfide horizons are auriferous. The South Gold Zone clearly demonstrates zones for thick mineralization with potential for a higher-grade core that may continue to depth. Sections of higher-grade mineralization are associated to quartz veining.
There has been limited exploration outside the South Gold Zone despite an abundance of geophysical and structural targets along the 11 km of property covering the south break of the Casa Berardi Structural zone.
Further work should aim at better understanding the timing and modes of gold mineralization in order to determine whether the gold emplacement was primary or remobilized, which will better allow for targeted exploration. Compilation work of Rioux in 2020 has already identified a few DDH targets in order to test mineralized zones open to depth.
No resource has been estimated on the Joutel Eagle NW property yet.
