Lac Chibougamau
Location, Access, Description
The Lac Chibougamau property is located in Eeyou-Istchee James Bay Government, Northern Québec, Canada (NTS 32G16), approximately 11 km southeast of Chibougamau. It consists of 72 contiguous claims covering a total area of 3,333 hectares along the north shoreline of Lac Chibougamau. The Project is easily accessible in vehicle by all-weather gravel roads connecting to regional highway #167.
The claims have been stacked by Globex and then transferred in 2012 to Chibougamau Independent Mines (CIM), a subsidiary of Globex ; TomaGold optioned the property from CIM in 2023 (as well as several other properties of CIM ; see the General Map of Globex’s assets in the Chibougamau area), and Globex will retain a 3% Gross Metal Royalty (GMR) on it.
The Mine S-3 former gold mine (historical production 1987-1990 : 316,732t grading 3.63 g/t Au and 0.37% Cu; Houle, 2019) is located in the southern part of the property. The Mont Sorcier advanced Fe-Vanadium project is located directly east of the Lac Chibougamau property; Cerrado recently announced NI 43-101 Indicated Resource of 678.5 Mt @ 25.46% Fe and expects to complete a NI 43-101 Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) by the end of Q1 2026 (Cerrado website). Several past-producing copper mines are also present in the direct vicinity of the property ; the Copper Rand one produced 16.43Mt grading 1.80% Cu, 2.8 g/t Au and 2.3 g/t Ag between 1960 and 1997 (Houle, 2019).
Geology and Mineralization
The Lac Chibougamau property is located in the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield. The Abitibi Sub-province is known for its prolific and diverse rich mineral deposits; total gold production of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt (AGB) since the beginning of the 20th century is estimated at over 210 million ounces (Moz) Au (Dumas, 2024).
The Chibougamau region hosts some of the eldest rocks of the AGB; the Project area straddles the contact between the mafic magmatic rocks of the Lac Doré Complex (LDC) to the south and sediments and mafic volcanics of the Roy Group to the north. The property area is largely underlain by variably sericitized, massive anorthosite and anorthositic gabbro of the LDC, which grade into the iron-rich ultramafic units. Within the Property, the stratigraphy of the Roy Group comprises predominantly basalt and andesitic basalt, mafic to felsic volcaniclastic rock, dacite, rhyolite, banded iron formations (BIF), chert, and argillite. The anorthosite Doré Lake Complex and the Chibougamau Pluto were emplaced into this volcano-sedimentary package, and both played a major role as regional mineralized features, and the vast majority of mines in the Lake Chibougamau area are located within or near these two intrusions.
All rock units in the area were affected by multiple deformation events and are folded into a succession of east-west trending anticlines and synclines. Lithological units tend to have steep to subvertical dips. Faults and shear zones in the region strike dominantly northeast and east. Regional metamorphism is at the greenschists grade.
The Chibougamau Mining District is located in the northeastern part of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt and hosts a variety of deposit styles; Leclerc et al. (2012) documented volcanogenic massive sulphide (“VMS”) deposits, magmatic Fe-Ti-V and Ni-Cu ± PGE mineralization, early polymetallic (Au-Ag-Cu-Zn-Pb) vein deposits (to which the Property mineralization might belong), Chibougamau-type Cu-Au-veins, shear zone-hosted Au deposits, and Opemiska-type Cu-Au veins. Total production of the Chibougamau mining camp since the beginning of the 20th century is estimated at 1,624.9 Mlbs Cu and 3.22 Moz Au (Houle, 2019).
Mineral production from the Chibougamau Mining Camp was derived largely from mesothermal Cu-Au veins. The discovery of Cu-Au deposits in the Lac Dore Intrusive Suite, historically known as “Chibougamau-type mineralization,” led to the development of the Chibougamau-Chapais mining camp (Pilote et al., 1998). Between 1954 and the end of 1977, 15 deposits were discovered and were periodically in production. Most of the past producing mines are located within the anorthositic gabbro phase of the Lac Doré Complex. When the Chibougamau Pluton intruded the bedrock, the Lac Doré anorthosites were fractured and filled with metal-bearing hydrothermal fluids. Mineralization on the Lac Chibougamau property is characterized by strong injection of quartz-iron carbonate (ankerite-siderite) veins or veinlets hosted in E-W-oriented shear zones (GM73771).
The presence of magnetite (Fe3O4) on the Mont Sorcier project is strongly associated with ultramafic units inside rocks of the Lac Doré Complex. The Lac Chibougamau is located in strike with the geological units and with the mineralized zones at Mont Sorcier. Some UM sills are known on the property.
History
The Chibougamau region has been the site of numerous historical works. The reader is referred to Voyager Metals NI 43-101 Preliminary Economic Assessment on the Mont Sorcier Project (Boudreau et al., 2022) for more details about past exploration in this area.
Numerous diamond drilling programs have been done on the Lac Chibougamau property prior to its acquisition by Globex. About 265 DDH (more than 60,000 metres) have been documented in Quebec public data (Sigéom).
Recent developments :
In 2012, CIM filed a NI 43-101 Technical Report and Evaluation of Potential of the Lac Chibougamau properties (Larouche, GM67657).
In 2021, CIM requested the services of NOVATEM to fly a very-high resolution airborne magnetic survey over several of its properties in the Chibougamau area (GM72456), including the Lac Chibougamau claims.
In 2022, CIM undertook diamond drilling (8 DDH, 2,776 metres) in order to confirm the presence of copper-gold (Cu-Au) mineralization in the Hematite Bay area of the Lac Chibougamau property (GM73730). Most of the drill holes in the fall 2022 campaign intersected significant copper-gold mineralization. Hole HB-22-19 returned up to 0.40 g/t Au and 1.99% Cu over a total core length of 10.0 meters (including 1.96 g/t and 5.81% Cu over 1.00 meter).

TomaGold optioned two (2) blocks of properties from CIM in 2023, including the Lac Chibougamau claims (CIM Press Release dated August 14, 2023). No work appears to have been carried out by TomaGold on the property at this time.
Resources and Potential
Historical work in the area identified a regional favorable context for several commodities including gold, silver, copper and zinc. The property potential is supported by favourable geological and structural setting and the presence of well-documented metallogenic and litho-tectonic elements such as the layered anorthositic Lac Doré Complex, and other structures and alteration. This potential is attested by the presence of several former mines in the direct vicinity of the Lac Chibougamau property (Mine S-3, Bateman Bay, Copper Cliff, Copper Rand, Henderson, Grandroy…); Cu was the principal commodity extracted with minor quantities of Zn, Ag and Au.
Further compilation work and follow-up DDH are recommended in order to better characterize the full potential of the Lac Chibougamau property.
