Meliyan
Location, Access, Description
The Meliyan property consists of 50 claims totalling 2,610 Ha in the James Bay territory (NTS 33B11 & 33B12), around 30 km east from both the Opinaca Reservoir and the Eleonore gold mine. The claims are wholly owned by Globex and are not subject to any underlying royalties or third party interests. The area is characterized by low relief and numerous lakes and swamps testifying to an intense remodeling of the relief by the glaciers. The property is covered with mixed vegetation of the taïga and boreal forest types. The property cannot be reached directly by road. Both Eleonore (30km) and Opinaca (85km) aerodromes can provide an access by helicopter though.
Geology and Mineralization
The Meliyan property is located in the Opinaca Sub-province, within the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield. Archean rocks of the Opinaca have been metamorphosed to granulite facies and partially melted. The property is composed of ENE-trending paragneiss and migmatites of the Laguiche Complex and intrusive rocks of the Janin Suite. The SE-trending Prosper shear zone marks the Opinaca – La Grande contact 10 km south of the property.
Uranium-Thorium-REE mineralization is often associated with NYF pegmatites in the vicinity of the Meliyan property (Major, Ech 5519702, Ech 55190060). Molybdenum-Tungsten porphyritic type mineralization was also recognized in that area. The Jojopam showing (4280 ppm Mo) is located on the Meliyan property within a garnet pegmatite intruding a paragneiss. Several gold (Au) showings were also recognized south and west of the property (Marchand, Inex, Dominique) ; the Prosper shear zone is the main gold metallotect of this area and hosts several worked deposits, including the Roberto deposit (Eleonore Mine).
Recent lithogeochemistry interpretation by the MRNF also indicates a good potential for Rare Metals LCT type mineralization (Li, Cs, Ta) within the peraluminous pegmatites of the Janin Suite.
History
Limited exploration work was undertaken directly on the Meliyan property. The area of the property was at first explored for its uranium potential. Numerous radiometric surveys were flown during the late 70’s and identified several U-Th-REE anomalies within granitic pegmatites.
Historical geophysical surveys (MAG, EM, IP) carried out between 2005 and 2009 revealed a few ENE electromagnetic conductors in the southwestern corner of the property. Following geological mapping and stripping intercepted weak Au, Ag and Cu anomalies on the conductors.
Resources and Potential
No resource has ever been estimated on the Meliyan property. The property benefits of an underexplored potential for Rare Metals mineralization associated with LCT pegmatites though. Field prospection and geochemical surveys in soils and streams should be planned to verify Rare Metals potential.
